Cheeky Devil MC Paul McCaffrey won thelondonpaper's hot new stand-up of the year competition on Sunday at the Soho Theatre, voted for by a sell-out crowd.
Paul was voted into the final, with four others, from a public vote on videos posted at thelondonpaper's website. At Sunday's final, Paul's live performance was chosen as one of two favourites - the other was French comic Marcel Lucont - by expert judges Soho Theatre comedy producer Steve Lock, comedian Nick Mohammed and Bafta-nominated producer Gary Reich.
The audience then chose between Paul and Marcel - and overwhelmingly voted Paul the winner. The prize for Paul's success in the competition is to support top comedian Russell Kane at his show at Soho Theatre on Friday 27 February 2009.
